Evidence of make-up dates back to 3500 BC in Egypt, used primarily by royalty such as Nefertiti, Nefetari, and the mask of Tutankhanun. The Ancient Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians used cosmetics that often contained poisonous mercury and lead. The Old Testament mentions how Jezebel painted her eyelids, back in 840 BC. The Book of Esther references beauty treatments.
During the Middle Ages, cosmetics were banned by the Church, although the upper classes still used them.
By the mid 20th century, use of make-up became prevalent in most all industrial nations. Make-up has been around for thousands of years! Now days estimates are that it's a $19 billion a year industry. With that in mind, go ahead...go for the 'afterglow'.
